About MicroSplat - Trax – Unity Editor Tool & Plugin
Designed as an add-on for the main MicroSplat terrain system, **MicroSplat - Trax** (version 3.6, with a file size .76 MB) provides a specialized pipeline for handling dynamic surface impressions. Instead of relying on standard blend operations for Unity's default TerrainData splatmaps, the package integrates a distinct processing pass directly into the code-generation framework. The software connects tracking scripts with GPU-side vertex deformation and pixel shading to support continuous world-space surface changes or decal-style buffers. Runtime behavior relies on a designated buffer manager. When entities like character feet, vehicle wheels, or project particles move across the terrain, physics queries or trigger events supply position and vector inputs to this manager. To maintain performance, the tool avoids spawning persistent objects or mesh colliders that might otherwise clutter the physics hierarchy. Geometric footprints render straight into global or localized render textures using hardware-accelerated command buffers. Because the main shading framework builds customized HLSL code based on active feature toggles, enabling this extension incorporates several key additions. Among these is a displacement and tessellation hook, which adjusts vertex heights in real time to simulate physical reactions in materials like mud, snow, or sand.
