Easy Build System - Modular Building System

About Easy Build System - Modular Building System – Unity Editor Tool & Plugin

Unity Building System and Framework

Easy Build System - Modular Building System is a complete Unity building framework that turns prefabs or custom models into buildable objects with placement, snapping, adjustment, upgrades, destruction, and saving. Its modular architecture includes dedicated systems for grids, grouping, batching, areas, rules, physics, saving, menus, and networking, while the included source code allows the framework to be customized and extended.

Building Workflow

The system is organized around a Building Manager, Building Controller, Building Input, Building States, Building Views, Building Parts, Conditions, Behaviors, and Sockets. Placement can preview parts, snap them to sockets, rotate and align them to a grid, while separate states handle destruction, adjustment, and upgrades. Building Parts can use reusable presets and renderer variants, and an editor tool can turn a model into a ready-to-use prefab.

Building Conditions can evaluate socket attachment, areas, collisions, ground contact, support, terrain layers, nearby trees, and slope limits before an action is allowed. Building Behaviors run after an action and can trigger animations or physics debris. Sockets provide configurable snapping points with connection filters and priorities.

Grid, Groups, and Structure Physics

The Building Grid System tracks occupied cells and supports multiple stages, per-mode visibility, target following on each axis, distance fading, and adjustable line softness. Building Groups form automatically as parts are placed near one another and can merge or split as structures change. The Building Batching System combines meshes per material to reduce draw calls while leaving colliders intact.

The Building Physics System tracks anchored support across a structure. Removing a load-bearing part can cause unsupported parts above it to fall. Support visualization is available in the Scene View, while physics checks are distributed across frames at a configurable rate.

Saving, Menus, and Input

The Building Save System stores each placed part's transform, socket, group, variant, and state. Saves can use PlayerPrefs, the project folder, or the persistent data path, with manual or fixed-interval saving, scene-specific slots, and a backup file. Save and load callbacks can also store custom data with a part.

Building Input supports the Legacy Input Manager and the new Input System, with keyboard, mouse, gamepad, and touch input. Building Menus provides Catalog and Radial menus with categories, slots, and standalone, mobile, and gamepad input modes.

Views, Samples, and Extensions

Included Building Views cover First Person, Third Person, Top Down, and Orbital perspectives, with the ability to switch views during runtime. Sample scenes cover Socket, Grid, Area, Batching, Save, Collapse, Terrain, Mobile Touch, Gamepad, VR, Catalog Menu, and Radial Menu workflows. The VR sample requires the XR Interaction Toolkit and the new Input System.

Four extensions demonstrate different building workflows: Buggy Constructor for assembling a vehicle from snapped parts, Interior Builder for furnishing a pre-built house, Survival Blueprint for constructing ghost blueprints with resources, and Survival Upgradable for upgrading placed parts through material tiers.

Networking and Integrations

Networking is optional rather than a requirement of the core framework. Building commands can be replicated through an adapter, with another adapter handling authority and keeping save and load synchronized. FishNet, Mirror, and PUN 2 each include a player and sample scene for multiplayer building.

Additional integrations include Game Creator 2 for visual scripting building controls, Game Creator 2 Inventory for resource-cost building, and PlayMaker for FSM-based building controls.

Compatibility

The framework supports Standard Render Pipeline, Universal Render Pipeline (URP), and High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) with Unity 2022.3+, 2023.1+, and 6.5+. It supports Standalone, Android, iOS, WebGL, Console, VR, AR, and XR projects.
