Unity Hierarchy Tool and Scene Workflow

vHierarchy 2 enhances the Unity Hierarchy with tools for organizing GameObjects, navigating scenes, inspecting components, and performing common editor actions without repeatedly selecting objects. It supports custom icons and colors, scene bookmarks, a component minimap, customizable hierarchy appearance, activation controls, and keyboard shortcuts that operate on the object under the mouse.

Hierarchy Organization

GameObjects can be highlighted with custom icons and colors, while dividers or folders can be created to structure the Hierarchy. These visual settings also work with prefabs, allowing the organization to remain visible when prefab instances are used in scenes.

The scene selector provides quick switching between scenes and allows frequently used scenes to be bookmarked. A navigation bar can also bookmark individual objects and reveal them with a click, while providing a control for collapsing all objects in the Hierarchy.

Editor Tools and Shortcuts

The component minimap displays the components attached to an object on the right side of the Hierarchy. Alt-clicking a component opens its mini editor, providing access to component editing without navigating away from the Hierarchy.

Object activation can be changed without selecting the GameObject. Keyboard shortcuts operate on the object currently under the mouse: D sets the default parent, A toggles the object's active state, F focuses it, X deletes it, E expands or collapses it, Shift-E expands only one object, and Ctrl-Shift-E collapses everything.

Customization

The palette can be customized with additional icons and colors and exported for use in other projects. The Hierarchy appearance can also be adjusted with hierarchy lines, Minimal mode, and zebra striping. These options allow the editor layout to be adapted to different organization preferences without requiring every feature to be enabled.
