Unity Road Creation and Spline Tool

MicroVerse - Roads is a road creation system for building roads and other spline-based structures such as rollercoasters, train tracks, pipelines, tunnels, and caves. It works with MicroVerse and MicroVerse-Splines to modify terrain non-destructively in realtime, with changes visible without a baking process.

Road Networks and Geometry

The system supports complex road networks with intersections, lane entrances and exits, and decorations that conform to road geometry. Guard rails and sidewalks can be configured per road or adjusted along the road using spline control points. Objects can also be positioned relative to roads, so hand-placed decorations can follow road changes when the underlying spline is edited.

Roads use actual geometry rather than only an extruded plane, giving the generated structures thickness and depth. This approach also supports structures beyond conventional roads, including rollercoasters, train tracks, and pipelines.

Road Shaders and Weather Effects

Custom shaders are included for roads and props and work across all render pipelines. The road shader provides controls for surface wear from vehicle passage, cracking from weathering and time, pavement appearance, and road markings.

Integration with Enviro and Weather Maker allows weather-related effects such as wet surfaces, puddles, rain drops, and snow accumulation to appear on the roads and props.

Requirements and Compatibility

MicroVerse - Roads requires MicroVerse, MicroVerse-Splines, and the Unity Spline package. Unity Splines 2.3 or greater is required and can be installed through the Package Manager using the package name com.unity.splines. All source code is included.

The package is compatible with the Built-in Render Pipeline, Universal Render Pipeline (URP), and High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) with Unity 2021.3.29f1.
